About the A-4K / No.75 SQN RNZAF

Serving the Royal New Zealand Air Force from 1970 until 2001, the A-4 Skyhawk is seen by many aviation enthusiasts both within the Land of the Long White Cloud and beyond as both a reliable and cheap-to-maintain workhorse. Redesignated as the A-4K and TA-4K, the RNZAF purchased 10 A-4E and 4 TA-4E aircraft in 1970, acquiring 8 A-4G and 2 TA-4G aircraft from the Royal Australian Navy in 1984 following the decommissioning of HMAS Melbourne. Following the acquisition of these aircraft, the RNZAF initiated Project Kahu, an attempt to modernize their A-4K's and A-4G's as to equip the RNZAF with a potent attack/strike force. This project cost NZ$140 million, installing Westinghouse AN/APG-66 Radars, HOTAS Controls, several pieces of data equipment, and chaff/flare dispensers, giving these Skyhawks the "eyes and ears" of much newer, 4th Generation aircraft, such as the F-16 and F/A-18. Unfortunately, they never got to see the modern combat they were fitted to partake in, as the New Zealand Labour Government of 2001 disbanded the RNZAF Strike Force, placing their Skyhawks into storage until Draken International struck an agreement to purchase 8 of their A-4Ks alongside various pieces of equipment. These Skyhawks now live on, partaking in DACT flights against U.S aircraft alongside aircraft like the Mig-21, Dassault Mirage F1 and many other legendary aircraft.
